} A General occurs as 1927 silent comedy about a handless Confederate engineer (train driver) world health organization pursues Union spies who steal his darling locomotive engine, A General, which incidentally likewise carries his alienated girlfriend too. Buster Keaton starred in the film and co-directed it by owning Clyde Bruckman. It was adapted by Al Boasberg, Bruckman, Keaton, Charles Henry Smith (uncredited) and Paul Girard Smith (uncredited) from a memoir A Swell Locomotive Chase by William Pittenger.

The story
the plot turns in the chase between ii railway locomotive engine & the railroad worker, played by Keatin, ab initio on a go-cart & after a second locomotive. Although played for laughs in the film, many of the cases actually occurred inside the chase through Georgia and Tennessee between trains pulled by locomotives named General and Texas (see Great Locomotive Chase for more details on the actual event).
